A mobile-ready version of the main website went live in November 2011.  It presents the same content but in an altered format that can be more satisfactorily navigated on handheld devices such as iPads, iPhones and Android or Windows-based smartphones.

The stylesheets that achieve this make use of HTML 5 standards and are automatically invoked, based on screen-size detection.

The Dictionary’s technical team is also working on a fully spatially aware version of the mobile Dictionary, which will use the geo-coding built into many Dictionary records, to produce a location-aware interface, ideal for finding the history around you , wherever you are in Sydney.
